Resilient Sydney – A Strategy for City Resilience 2018 Stakeholder Engagement

Resilient Sydney is part of the global 100 Resilient Cities initiative, which develops strategies to ensure cities adapt, survive and thrive no matter what challenges they face – physical, social or economic – in the 21st Century. 100RC describes urban resilience as the capacity of individuals, communities, institutions, businesses and city systems to adapt to chronic stresses and acute shocks.

In 2018, Cred was the project lead in designing, promoting and delivering four 25-person “design thinking” stakeholder workshops on behalf of the City of Sydney, to help Council build a resilient future for Sydney and propel the resilience effort globally.

How we did it

We took an innovative approach to our workshops, including taking people out of their local areas to venues across Sydney, using local “human faces” to tell their stories of resilience to stakeholders, and partnering with local businesses to share the value of the workshop (e.g. through social enterprise caterers).

Due to the success of these workshops, we were engaged to deliver the Working Group Summit (100 senior stakeholders) in April 2018, using a participatory decision-making approach to prioritise solutions for funding through 100 Resilient Sydney.

The outcome

Our work contributed towards an unprecedented level of engagement across Greater Sydney, helping inform Council’s development of its resilience strategy, Resilient Sydney – A Strategy for City Resilience 2018, and move closer towards realising its vision of Sydney as a city that is connected, inclusive and resilient for everyone.
