Visioning a future Canterbury-Bankstown through deliberative engagement

City of Canterbury-Bankstown

CBCity Community Strategic Plan Engagement

The City of Canterbury-Bankstown is a growing and socially, economically and culturally diverse community. The Council is the largest by population in NSW, with significant growth forecast and very high-dwelling targets. There is increasing development and density throughout the LGA.

In late 2017, we worked in collaboration with Micromex to deliver the community engagement activities to help form the first Community Strategic Plan for the newly-amalgamated City of Canterbury-Bankstown Council.

How we did it

As a team, Cred and Micromax delivered:

  • Two community visioning workshops (80 people each) which used design thinking to co-create community vision statements.
  • Four collaborative workshops with stakeholder groups representing local business, sports and recreation, government agencies and NGOs.
  • A People’s Panel. The panel was a deliberative engagement approach, meeting four times over four weeks to develop goals and strategies for the Community Strategic Plan, based on the preceding community engagement. Participants were recruited to be representative of the City of Canterbury-Bankstown community.

The outcome

This engagement informed the City of Canterbury-Bankstown’s CBCity 2028 vision – a 10-year plan to guide the LGA on its journey to be a thriving, dynamic city of people who are interested and interesting – unapologetically themselves.
