Barangaroo Harbour Park Social Impact Assessment
Infrastructure NSW
Infrastructure NSW engaged CRED Consulting to prepare a Social Impact Assessment for an SSDA proposal to develop a 1.85-hectare harbour park at Central Barangaroo. Infrastructure NSW wanted to know potential positive social impacts of the planning proposal and how these could be maximised. They also wanted to know potential negative social impacts of the proposal and how these could be mitigated. This SIA was delivered in accordance with the NSW Guidelines for State Significant Development.
Barangaroo Harbour Park is a complex project with high expectations for cultural growth, functionality, and sustainability, with significant technical, staging, and delivery challenges. CRED conducted the Social Impact Assessment by determining the impact the park would have on people’s way of life, the surrounding community, accessibility, culture, especially Aboriginal Culture, health and wellbeing and in the surroundings.
HOW WE DID IT
CRED Consulting designed and delivered the Barangaroo Harbour Park SIA, to determine the people and place benefits and potential impacts of the proposed park design. This assessment worked to ensure that the project has long lasting benefits for the local community, Greater Sydney and beyond.
We delivered:
- An analysis of population growth and demographic characteristics.
- Identification and mapping of the social locality.
- Strategic analysis of the site and proposal, including a review of local planning and policy for social infrastructure and open space.
- Assessment of various technical studies.
- Place analysis including audit and mapping of neighbouring uses, transport and connectivity and cultural and creative infrastructure.
- Consultation with key stakeholders and the Millers Point Residential Group.
- Identification of SSDA Guide compliant social impacts and mitigation measures.
