Darling Harbour 2050 Vision
Placemaking NSW
Darling Harbour is one of Australia’s most recognisable and well-loved public destinations – a place of national significance that attracts millions of visitors each year and holds happy memories for generations.
Placemaking NSW engaged CRED Consulting to design and deliver a far reaching, multi-channel engagement program to inform the Darling Harbour Vision 2050 and Place Strategy – a long-term plan to guide the precinct’s growth, activation and development.
As a high-profile project State Government project in the heart of Sydney, engagement needed to reflect the precinct’s importance and diversity, ensuring the voices of residents, workers, visitors and key stakeholders were heard. The program reached thousands of people through digital and in-person channels, generating meaningful insights to shape a shared vision for the Darling Harbour’s next chapter as an inclusive, vibrant and sustainable destination.
HOW WE DID IT
CRED designed and delivered a strategic, inclusive and high-visibility engagement program that brought together community insight, stakeholder expertise and lived experience.
We delivered:

- Seven community pop-up stalls within the precinct that attracted 165 participants
- Nine focus groups with diverse demographic cohorts including culturally and linguistically diverse communities, young people, older residents, and people with disability.
- Three walkshops and visioning workshops exploring experiences of access, safety, connection and identity.
- Workshops with key precinct stakeholders and government agencies to align priorities and opportunities
- A comprehensive engagement outcomes report identifying shared values and distinct insights from different community cohorts.

OUTCOMES
The Darling Harbour Vision 2050 engagement program captured the ideas and aspirations of thousands of people who live, work, and visit the precinct.
It provided Placemaking NSW with a clear, evidence-based foundation for developing the Darling Harbour Vision and Place Strategy – highlighting what people value most about the precinct and how they envision its future.
The outcomes are now shaping decisions about public realm design, activation and access, ensuring that Darling Harbour continues to evolve as a welcoming, vibrant and inclusive place for all.
