CBCity Resilience Strategy

City of Canterbury-Bankstown, NSW

In recent years, the City of Canterbury Bankstown (CBCity) has experienced unprecedented heatwaves, floods and storms, poor air quality due to bushfires, and a pandemic. At the same time, many people in the community experience daily pressures such as financial and housing stress, lack of transport options and social isolation, which can make it harder for them to cope when emergencies happen.

CRED Consulting was engaged by Council to develop CBCity’s inaugural Resilience Strategy, based on a strong evidence-base and rigorous community and Council staff engagement.

HOW WE DID IT

CRED designed an extensive engagement program including community focus groups, interviews and targeted interviews with service providers and Council staff members. The purpose of the engagement program was to better understand the shocks and stresses facing the Canterbury-Bankstown LGA, identify strengths of and risks facing communities and identify what resources are needed in an emergency.

OUTCOMES

The CBCity Resilience Strategy sets out a vision and direction for Council, community and partners to work together to create a resilient community that can adapt and thrive into the future no matter what challenges it may face.
