Port Kembla Masterplan Social Needs Analysis

BlueScope Steel and Colony Six, NSW

ColonySix on behalf of BlueScope Steel engaged CRED Consulting to deliver a range of studies to inform the preparation of the Port Kembla Masterplan and lodgement of the planning proposal. CRED delivered a range of specialist advice including around social needs, social infrastructure needs and community benefits.

HOW WE DID IT

To deliver these studies, we:

  • Completed comprehensive baseline research around the existing community and place, including social and economic vulnerabilities and strengths.
  • Participated in collaborative cross-discipline workshops.
  • Aligned research and analysis with the BlueScope Steels vision.
  • Prepared iterative needs studies and plans to inform and respond to local to regional social needs.

OUTCOMES

The Port Kembla Land Transformation Project has resulted in this land being rezoned from heavy industrial to special purpose, enabling the development of modern manufacturing, clean energy, research and education at the site. Urban renewal of the site will deliver benefits for the region and NSW more broadly, including an additional $3.2 billion to the regional economy, support 30,000 jobs, improve local connectivity and unlock land for community access and public space.
